Celebrating Unity and Pride, Mauritius Marks 57th Independence and 33rd Republic Anniversary...

Today, Mauritius celebrated its 57th Independence and 33rd Republic Anniversary with a grand flag-raising ceremony at Champ de Mars, the historic site of the first independence celebrations more than five decades ago. The ceremony was attended by President Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Cabinet ministers, and Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
The theme of the ceremony, “As One People, As One Nation,” resonated throughout the event. The national flag was hoisted amidst the national anthem, with the collective voices of the crowd echoing across the grounds. A 21-Gun salute followed, paying homage to those who fought for the country's independence.
The ceremony continued with a Trooping of the National Colours by the Police helicopter, a highly anticipated tradition that showcased the nation’s unity and pride. The event reached new heights with impressive flypasts by Mauritius Police helicopters, Dornier aircraft, CASA aircraft from the Forces Armées de la Zone Sud de l’Océan Indien, and Indian Naval helicopters, adding to the grandeur of the day.
A lively march-past followed, featuring members of the Mauritius Disciplined Forces, the Détachement from the French 2ème Régiment de Parachutistes d’Infanterie de Marine des Forces Armées de la Zone Sud de l’Océan Indien, and contingents from the Seychelles Defence Force and the Indian Navy. Also participating were the majors and majorettes of Queen Elizabeth College, representatives of various Uniformed Organisations, and high-level athletes, all marching with pride and precision.
The celebrations continued with a colorful vehicle parade and spectacular musical performances from the bands of the Mauritius Police Force, Mauritius Prison Service, and the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service, keeping the crowd energized and engaged.
Here are a few glimpses from the programme: a flag-raising ceremony full of unity, a spectacular flypast of military aircraft, an impressive march-past showcasing national pride, and vibrant musical performances that brought the nation together in celebration of its independence and republic status.
